The 7.0 earthquake is reportedly affecting more than 3 million people, with the death toll estimated in the thousands. Haiti is one of the poorest countries in the Western hemisphere, and they need our help.
After reading up on different charities and talking to friends, I think Doctors Without Borders is one of the best charities to which you can donate. They already have a running clinic in Port au Prince, and medical help is urgently needed. If you’re a U.S. resident interested in donating, click here. Residents of other countries, please click here.
Additionally, according to the U.S. State Department, people can text “HAITI” to “90999,” and a donation of $10 will be given automatically to the Red Cross to help with relief efforts; your cell phone bill will be charged accordingly.
Let’s donate what we can and encourage others to do the same. With your help, we can begin to ease the pain and suffering in Haiti during this tragic time. xo, m
